Tony Jerry Prokop Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Tony Jerry Prokop announces his passing on January 26, 2026, at the age of 87.

Tony was born on May 9, 1938, in Brooks, Alberta, to his parents Joseph and Sophia Prokop, who immigrated to Canada from Poland at the beginning of the Second World War. Eventually, Joe and Sophie settled in Nanaimo, British Columbia, where they purchased a farm and raised their two sons, Tony and Ed.

Tony had two children from his first marriage. He later met and married the love of his life, Connie Prokop, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage filled with love, devotion, and cherished memories.

Tony joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1957 and proudly served for 36 years, retiring in 1993. Through dedication and leadership, he rose through the ranks to become Chief Superintendent, ultimately serving as Director of all RCMP Crime Laboratories in Canada.

Outside of his career, Tony had many passions. He loved classical music, opera, reading, and photography, and was an avid opera fan whose favourite singer was Luciano Pavarotti. His greatest joy was living with his wife Connie on their beautiful acreage, where they shared countless special moments together. Tony and Connie also deeply loved their dogs over the years, and Tony leaves behind their beloved golden retriever, Molly, who was adored by both of them, as well as his sweet cat, Lily.

In a touching moment during the final week of his life, a nurse at the Grey Nuns Hospital—who came from the same hometown as his treasured Pavarotti—played opera music for Tony, bringing him comfort and peace.

Tony’s memory will be lovingly cherished by his wife, Connie Janet Prokop (née Lewis); his son, Gregory Alexander Prokop (Wendy); his daughter, Eva Marie Prokop; his six grandchildren; and his many great-grandchildren.

Tony was deeply loved and will be missed beyond measure.
