Surjit Kaur Mahajan

Our Maa, Surjit Kaur Mahajan, is survived by her loving husband, Harbans Singh; 2 sons, Parvinder and Jasvinder; her 2 daughters, Ravinder and Rajinder; her daughter- in-laws, Raminder, Parmeet, and Gurpreet; son-in-laws, Avtar and Ranjit. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren and great grandchild, Jaskirat, Avneet, Daskhdeep, Urmeet, Japneet, Taranjot, Surpreet, Simran, Sukhman, Harjot, Harpreet, Jasue, Pravjoat and Harjas. Preceded in her death by her son, Tajinder Singh; and her parents Gopal Singh and Harbans Kaur Thapar. 

Surjit Kaur Mahajan journey began on April 10,1943; the third of six children. Raised by her parents in Layalpur, Undivided India. As she enjoyed her childhood with the company of her four sisters and brother in the lovingly built family home. She adored the flourishing guava tree planted with loving memories by her sweet family. October 10, 1962, Surjit married her husband, Harbans Singh Mahajan. They cherished their relationship and created a family that they called their own. Delhi was home until 1994 when Surjit, Harbans, her sons; Parvinder and Jasvinder made the life-changing decision to move to Canada upon settling her three older children into incredible families. 

Her life was a testament of generosity and service to others; whether that be for her children, grandchildren, friends, relatives, and even strangers. Her unwavering faith in Waheguru, taught us valuable lessons that we will forever remember. From her soulful Kirtan, lively Boliyan, Sitniya, this woman was the jukebox of joy and celebration. Dadi went above and beyond our expectations. Her presence lit up every gathering, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her. Often was the life of the party and the wild one, as we would describe. We will miss our Mom, Dadi and Nani more than she’ll ever know. 

Our family would like to thank all those who have come to pay their respects and share in honouring our Maa/Dadi. 

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 20, 2024 at Edmonton Crematorium and Funeral Home, 6403 Roper Rd NW, Edmonton, AB.
