Shaun Ralph Collicott
April 25, 1950 - March 13, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that the Collicott/Desmarais families announce the passing of
Shaun on Friday, March 13, 2026. He will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful
husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Shaun is survived by his wife of 15 years Margo Desmarais, his children Amy (Jeff)
Gillis, Allison Collicott, Jane Mermans; her children Traci (Travis) Grams and Justin
(Monica) Desmarais. Their seven grandchildren, Dylan Mermans, Sadie Gillis, Matthew
Mermans, Ainsley Grams, Casey Gillis, Jameson Grams and Lachlan Desmarais; his
siblings, Joanne McGuigan, Rose (John) Halley, Steven Collicott, her sister Lauren
Hamm, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Shaun was predeceased by
his parents Ralph and Catherine (McAndrew) Collicott, a brother Kevin Collicott, a
nephew Kevin Fewer, son-in-law Eric Mermans, brother-in-law Wayne McGuigan and
sister-in-law Candace (Marybeth) Alston.
Growing up in Canterbury New Brunswick Shaun was a natural athlete and his only
pace was FAST winning him many ribbons in track and field. Shaun loved the outdoors
and owned an outfitting business that allowed him to make friends all over the world. In
2017 Shaun and Margo traveled to Kilcoy Australia where they had the opportunity to
reconnect with Shaun’s hunting friends from his outfitter days. He spent 30 years
working in the pulp and paper industry in Nackawic NB before moving to Fort McMurray
Alberta when he was a Millwright for Suncor Energy.
Another passion of Shaun’s was following Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey
Tournaments. It started in Saskatoon SK at the 2009 tournament where Shaun was
sitting behind the Team Russia goal tender when Jordan Eberly scored to tie the semi-
final game with 5.4 seconds left taking the game to over-time which Canada won. In
2013 Shaun traveled with Destiny Tours to Ufa Russia for the experience of a lifetime.
He said the people were so warm and friendly and everyone wanted a picture with the
Canadian Cowboy. Shaun and Margo continued traveling to the World Junior Hockey
Tournament with what became their Destiny Tours family. Experiencing so many
wonderful adventures in Germany, Austria, Finland, Estonia, Czechia, Poland,
Switzerland, Sweden and Denmark. Shaun will be lovingly remembered as the Flag
Guy by his Destiney Tours family.
A celebration of Shaun’s life will be held at a future date; in lieu of flowers the family
would like donations to be made in Shaun’s memory to the UofA Campus Food Bank.
