It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Satroopa (Satu), beloved
daughter and granddaughter, incredible sister (ben) and sister-in-law (saari/naren),
loving niece, doting masi (maternal aunt) and fai (paternal aunt), amazing friend,
and passionate nature-lover at the young age of 34.
Satroopa was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. She loved learning and
attended the University of Alberta first completing a Bachelor of Science in
Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences and then a Bachelor of Science in
Nutrition and Food Science eventually becoming a Registered Dietitian. One of her
most memorable learning experiences was participating in an exchange program
and studying for a semester in New Zealand; it quickly became one of her favourite
places in the world.
Satroopa was a voracious reader, always analyzing and expanding her knowledge;
she loved Harry Potter and LOTR. She was always willing to try reading something
new and engaging in discussions about what she was reading.
A talented and creative individual, she started Bharat Natyam lessons at the age of
six and eventually moved into helping teach younger students at Kala Nilayam
School of Dance. In addition to her love of classical dance, she was always ready for
Navratri or to hit the dance floor to celebrate and welcome new members into the
family at weddings. Her crafts, artwork, and the handmade birthday cards will now
be treasured reminders of an absolutely beautiful human.
She will be remembered as the one who was always there for her family and friends
no matter what the circumstances - everyone came before her own wants and
needs, even if it meant that she got hurt or inconvenienced. Satroopa was
thoughtful, clever, gentle, caring, wise, and beyond compassionate. She was warm,
soft-spoken and was able to make any difficult situation seem small and
manageable.
She had a soft spot for the underprivileged advocating for better care of seniors,
stronger controls for victims of abuse, and care for our planet.
She will be so missed by her parents, siblings and entire family around the world
and by all of her friends.
Should you wish to do something in Satroopa's honour, in lieu of flowers, please
make a donation to Sea Shepherd or Plan Canada, give back to your community
through volunteering, and be kind and patient to those around you. She would
thoroughly approve of any of those options!
