In Loving Memory of Roberto Gonzalez Crespo (July 12, 1960– January 6, 2026)

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Roberto Gonzalez Crespo, age 65, on January 6, 2026.

Born Tuesday July 12, 1960 in Havana, Cuba, Roberto is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife and the love of his life Magalys; her children Yazmin (Rochelle) and Adrian; his cherished grandson David; his beloved daughter Claudia (Kevin); his mother Blanca Rosa; and his brothers Carlos jr. (Carmela) and Jorge (Blanca). He will also be dearly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Roberto was predeceased by his father, Carlos Gonzalez Rodriguez (1925-2002).

Roberto lived a rich and remarkable life filled with adventure, courage, and love. Born and raised in Havana, he later pursued his studies abroad, earning a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in the Soviet Union. In 1991, he immigrated to Canada following a heroic escape from Cuba’s communist regime. He made Edmonton his home in 1992, where he built a life grounded in resilience, hard work, and deep dedication  to family.

A devoted family man, Roberto enriched the lives of all who knew him. He had a profound love for the outdoors, nature, and travel, especially returning whenever possible to sandy beaches and warm, sunny skies. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and colleagues, and his absence will be felt for many years to come. He will also be greatly missed by his beloved dogs, Lola and Layla, who were a constant source of companionship and joy in his life.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Grey Nuns Community Hospital Emergency and ICU team, including the dedicated doctors and nurses, for their unwavering commitment, compassion, and tireless efforts to care for Roberto during his stay.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 15, at 1:00 p.m. at the Edmonton Crematorium & Funeral Home, located at 6403 Roper Road. In accordance with Roberto’s wishes, following the service, he will be cremated, and ashes later spread on the beach, where he may enjoy everlasting sunshine and warmth.
