Lester John Lawson Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Lester John Lawson announce his passing on

February 19, 2026.

Les was born to Bud Leonard and Mary Bernice (nee Borreson) Lawson on April 20th,

1953, at home in Strongfield, SK. In 1964 the family moved to Saskatoon where Les grew up with his six siblings.

Les attended school at Pleasant Hill Elementary, and City Park Collegiate. Les enjoyed

sports his whole life, and as a child and teen he played basketball, football, and baseball.

Growing up in Strongfield, Les and his brothers spent most of their time at the

local rink playing hockey, and Les later went on to be drafted by the Brandon Wheat Kings. Les carried on his love of sports throughout life, being an enthusiastic sports fan, always up for an Oilers or Riders game.

In 1991 Les met his partner Dianne and gained 2 stepdaughters. Les and Dianne lived

in Saskatoon together until 1998 when they relocated to Sherwood Park, Alberta, then moved to St. Albert, Alberta in 2005, where they spent the last 21 years. Les had a long

career in the construction industry as a drywaller, he worked many years alongside his brother Ed and made many great friends at work during his career.

After retirement, he took joy in being a school bus driver, ensuring the safety of children in St. Albert.

Known for his kind heart, Les made friends everywhere he went, often coming home with stories about new acquaintances he met while getting a coffee at Timmies

. Les was an avid reader who loved a good mystery, probably why he was such a good storyteller himself. Les loved music and took up guitar later in life. He loved to play at

family functions, and shared his love of guitar with his grandkids, who loved to play and write songs alongside him.

Les was probably happiest when he was doing something outdoors. He liked to bike

and walk every day, especially with his dogs Joey, Cricket and Pebbles, and in the summers he and Dianne spent as much time as possible at the lake; kayaking,

swimming and walking. He liked to read a good book on the beach, play with his grandkids in the water, and sit around a campfire telling stories with family.

Les will be missed by his partner, Dianne Legebokoff (her daughter Mona); his stepchildren: Christy Kovacs (Emmanuel Vaisman), Kim (Travis) Boyer; his grandchildren Anaelle, Sophia, Ramona, Odette and Sebastien; brothers Edward

(Shirley), Al (Cindy), and his mother-in-law Dolores Legebokoff, as well as many nieces and nephews, and extended family.

Les was preceded in death by his parents Mary & Bud Lawson, his sisters Stella, Joyce and Donna, and brother Howard.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Saskatoon, SK. If you would like to

forward a photograph, memory or story about Les to be included in the memorial,

please send it to Kim Boyer at kovacs_kim@hotmail.com
