Joseph Joe Kohut Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of Joe, our husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather on January 7, 2025.

Joe was born in Rosa, Manitoba on May 17, 1942.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Olive of 61 years, children Joseph Darryl Kohut (predeceased 1967), Joseph Dale Kohut (Deanna), Bonnie Chalmers (Roger). His grandchildren: Bronwyn Hilgersom (Carson) , Taylor (Taylor), Camryn and Abby. His great grandchildren Ivan, Theo and Sloane.  In addition, his best friend Tico along with numerous in-laws, nephews and nieces.

Joe was predeceased by his parents Steven and Mary Kohut; brothers, Alex, Bill, Mike, and sisters, Sonia, Nellie, Nancy, Vickie, Helen and Olga.   Joe will also be lovingly remembered by his surviving sister’s Audrey Hladun (Dave), Margret Yestrau (Leonard) and brother Nestor (Sally).

In 1963, Joe married Olive and raised their family in West St. Paul, Manitoba.  Joe, in his early days was employed with the Brooklands Police Department (Winnipeg) and later retired after 33 years of service as an Inspector with the City of Winnipeg (Waste and Water Works Division).  In 2000 Joe and Olive moved to Spruce Grove, Alberta to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Joe enjoyed moonlighting with the love of his life Olive in various businesses such as; vegetable markets/sales, landscaping, hobby farming, concrete ornamental production (Golden Lawn Decor Ltd), and flea markets.  Joe really enjoyed maintaining and polishing his Mercury Grand Marquis and playing the casino’s.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the support staff at the St Albert Hospital, Royal Alexander Hospital and Parkland County Respiratory Care Team for their exceptional care and kindness Joe received.

“We seen you close your eyes, and heard your last sigh, and we said our last goodbye.

It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone, for part of us went with you, that day God called you home.”

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring.
