It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved father,

grandfather and great grandfather, S. Harbant Singh Sandhu, on January 10th, 2025, at

the age of 98.

 

Born on May 13, 1926 in the village of Dhulkot, Punjab, he lived a life full of happiness

and servitude, surrounded by family throughout. He served as a quartermaster in the

Indian Military for a few years before he joined India’s Department of Agriculture for 30

years. He emigrated to Canada in 1987 with his wife, Bhagwan Kaur, to join his son’s

growing family. He would return periodically to India to attend to financial matters and to

visit extended family, always happy to return to his newfound home in Canada. He

enjoyed studying astrology and palmistry, piquing the interest of countless individuals

from all over who would come to his house to hear predictions about their future, free of

charge. He remained in the Edmonton area until his passing, providing wisdom and love

for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

He is survived by his son Surinder, daughter-in-law Sukhraj, granddaughter Gagan

(Ken), grandsons Mandeep (Sharon) and Jasminder (Harjot), great grandchildren

Anaya, Selvi, Leo and Emma, as well as his sisters Hardial Kaur and Bhajan Kaur. He

was predeceased by his father Channan Singh, mother Ind Kaur, wife Bhagwan Kaur

and son Harminder Singh, as well as his siblings Harbans Kaur and Balwant Singh.

 

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at the Sturgeon

Community Hospital in the Emergency Room, Unit 17 and Unit 15 where he spent his

final days comfortably and peacefully. Their compassion and caring will be remembered.

 

A funeral service and Antim Ardaas are planned for January 14th, 2025 at 12:00 pm at

Edmonton Crematorium and Funeral home, 6403 Roper Road Edmonton,AB followed by a Sehaj Paath Bhog at

Gurdwara Siri Guru Singh Sabha.
