Erna & Walter Braul Obituary

Erna Braul

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Erna Braul, a cherished mother,
grandmother, sister and friend. Erna peacefully departed this life, leaving behind a joy for life
and love that will be forever felt and remembered.

A woman of love and compassion, Erna valued, above all else, her family and large group of
friends.

After dedicating herself to raising her children, she pursued a career in nursing, enrolling at the
University of Alberta. She graduated with her Nursing Degree in 1984 and went on to work at
the Cross Cancer Institute before becoming a palliative homecare nurse. Over her remarkable
22-year career, Erna provided comfort and care to countless patients, embodying unwavering
professionalism and compassion.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Erna was well known for her love of being part
of the community. An avid reader, she enjoyed participating in book clubs, was a member of the
Orchid society, golfed in a lady’s league, was a proficient event planner, and a fabulous cook.
Erna’s happiest moments were spent actively surrounded by those she loved. Together, Walter
and Erna built a wonderful community of friends and relatives creating countless memories filled
with laughter and love.

Erna is survived by her son Bryan (Melissa), daughter Shannon (Don), and her treasured
grandchildren: Caitlin, Dylan, Devin, Adam, Matthew, Jack, and great granddaughter Selene.
She will be dearly missed by her brothers (Elmer and Walter) and sister, Elsie. She also leaves
behind a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Erna was predeceased by her
beloved son, Kevin and brothers Art and Cork.

Erna Braul’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be forever missed.

Walter Braul

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Walter Braul, a beloved husband, father,
grandfather, and friend. Walter's departure leaves a profound void, yet his legacy of caring and
dedication will remain etched in all who knew him.

Born on a Mennonite homestead in Lymburn, Alberta, Walter grew up in a close-knit community
that valued support and connection. After his family moved to Rosemary, Alberta, he attended
school and worked on the family farm, embodying the spirit of perseverance that defined his
pioneer upbringing.

After high school, Walter decided to pursue a career in law. He graduated from the University of
Alberta's Law School in 1965, embarking on a remarkable 52-year legal career. His unwavering
professionalism and integrity made a lasting impact on the Edmonton community, and he forged
many lifelong friendships along the way.

Beyond his professional achievements, Walter was also a passionate coach and mentor in the
world of softball. His dedication to the sport earned him a well-deserved place in the Alberta
Softball Hall of Fame, reflecting the inspiration he provided to the teams he coached. Walter
was also an avid golfer and enjoyed curling in the winters.

In the days leading up to his passing, Walter completed a book on Mennonite history, drawing
from the rich tapestry of his family's roots. In this work, his love for history and storytelling will
resonate with future generations.

Walter is survived by his son Bryan (Melissa), daughter Shannon (Don), and his cherished
grandchildren: Caitlin, Dylan, Devin, Adam, Matthew, and Jack, and great granddaughter,
Selene. He also leaves behind a loving extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Walter was predeceased by his beloved son, Kevin, brothers, Henry, John, Peter and sister
Sally.

He will be deeply missed.
