Erika Efua Gaisie Obituary

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our sister niece friend Erika Gaisie , a cherished daughter , devoted sister , and loyal friend. She left us peacefully on 13th November 2024. Today, we honor and celebrate the beautiful life of my sister, Erika Gaisie, who was born on December 7, 2001, to loving parents, Sally and Joshua. Erika was a cherished daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who touched all of our lives in countless ways. Erika was the fourth of 5 children, with seven siblings in total. She also had the immense joy of being an aunt to three nieces and one nephew, a role she embraced with her signature love, humor, and energy. From the moment Erika came into this world, she brought with her an infectious joy that was impossible to resist. She had the most contagious laugh—a quirky giggle that could fill a room and brighten even the darkest of days. It was impossible not to smile when Erika was around, especially because nearly everything she did came with her iconic peace sign attached.

Growing up in Montreal was a time for the books, especially for Erika and me. As the eldest sister, I was her role model, and Erika made sure to follow me absolutely everywhere. Whether I was heading to the basketball court or running errands, she was right by my side. I remember how she’d sit patiently on the bench with our brother Shjonte for hours while I played basketball. Periodically, I’d run over to check on them, hand out snacks, or watch them walk to the corner store just a short distance away. Those were such simple yet precious moments—moments that now feel like treasures. Being the eldest of five children, I often referred to Erika as my first child. We shared so many memories together—too many to count. When my own children were born, Erika stepped naturally into the role of “Cool Aunty.” She was the kind of aunt every child dreams of. She told them, “The rules don’t apply when I’m here—it’s always fun time!” And she meant it.

She did things with my kids that only Erika could do, like tossing them in the air, letting them stand on her shoulders, and carrying them around for what felt like hours. She was their favorite teacher, showing them how to longboard, ride scooters, and embrace the great outdoors—because that’s when Erika was in her element. She was adventurous, fearless, and full of life, and she shared that spirit with everyone she loved. Erika was more than my sister. She was my partner in laughter, my confidant, and my constant companion. In so many ways, she was my first child—the person I nurtured, guided, and grew alongside. The bond we shared was unique and irreplaceable.

Erika, your love, laughter, and light will remain with us forever. You showed us how to embrace life with open arms, a quirky giggle, and, of course, a peace sign. Though you are no longer here with us, the memories you gave us will continue to inspire and comfort us.

We love you endlessly, and we will carry your spirit with us in everything we do. Rest peacefully, my dear sister. You will always be in our hearts.
