In Loving Memory of Diane Sylvia Card
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Diane Sylvia Card, who left this world after a short but courageous battle with cancer. Diane was born on May 12, 1964, and passed away in Edmonton, AB, on September 9 th, 2025, at the age of 61.
Diane’s life was dedicated to caring for others. A proud graduate of Loyalist College’s nursing program, she went on to complete post-graduate studies at Niagara College (Welland) and Humber College (Mississauga). Over the years, she built a remarkable nursing career, sharing her knowledge and compassion through private practice, community care, and the operating room in St. Catharines, Welland, Dunnville, Burlington, and Hamilton General.
Beyond her professional life, Diane was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She leaves behind her daughter, Holly Buckley (Mitch), and her precious grandson Alden, who lovingly called her “Nonie.” She is also survived by her son, Jesse McCormick, and her adored pug, Lucy (“Goose”). Diane cherished her lifelong friendship with Karen Weed, whose 35 years of unwavering love and loyalty meant the world to her.
Diane was a passionate lover of the arts — dancing, singing, Broadway, movies, and music filled her soul. She was also deeply devoted to her dogs and all animals, a true caretaker at heart. Those who knew her remember her as someone who “meant what she said and said what she meant.” She lived authentically, loved deeply, and had an unforgettable sense of humor, always able to appreciate a good joke.
She will be deeply missed by her sisters, Kathy Dracz (Jerry) and Vicki Card; nieces Jennifer, Alicia, Lindsay (Dan), Felicia (Tom); nephew Curtis (Stephanie); and many great-nieces and nephews.
Diane was predeceased by her mother, Grace Books; her father, Clyde Brooks; and her brother, David (Lorraine) Brooks of Dunnville.
As Diane wished, cremation has taken place in Alberta, and she will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Dunnville, alongside her family. There will be no formal service or celebration of life. In her memory, donations to any reputable pet rescue would be greatly appreciated.
Diane was a stellar nurse, a devoted mom and Nonie, a loyal friend, and a kind, generous soul. She was deeply loved and will be missed beyond measure. She taught us love, loyalty, and laughter, and her spirit will live on in all who knew her.
