Bernice Elizabeth Cable

Bernice Elizabeth Cable of Sherwood Park, Alberta passed away peacefully on the morning of June 14, 2025, surrounded and comforted by love and family. She was 93 years of age.

She is survived by 5 sons; Rodney (Deanna), Gary (Stephanie), Dennis (Sharon), Brian (Jeannette), and Bruce (Keith), along with 7 grandchildren (Amanda, Ashley, Mitchell, Tamara, Alexa, Briana, Alyssa) and 7 great-grandchildren.

Bernice was predeceased by her husband of 19 years, Thomas Cable, in 1973, and by her parents Josh & Maude Laurie (nee Galloway), and her six siblings and their spouses. She was, above all, a mother and grandmother, caring for and nurturing 3 generations of family. Bernice was always thoughtful and kind, generous with both her time and baking prowess, especially with her family, friends, neighbours, and church community. She was exceptionally musical, having learned to play piano and accordion by ear, and in her younger years would regularly play for local barn dances. She single-handedly raised 5 boys, becoming a strong woman in the process, long before that was fashionable or even acceptable. Until the end she kept her mind engaged and active with crossword puzzles, current events, and TV sports, especially Oilers hockey. Bernice was a dear friend to all who knew her, and she always found a way to keep in touch.

A Celebration of Bernice’s Life will take place at Sherwood Park United Church, 20 Fir Street, Sherwood Park, Alberta on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at 11:00 AM. In her memory, please feel free to wear something in one of her favourite colours, pink or purple.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Walter and the nursing staff at Gene Zwozdesky Centre at the Norwood for their kindness, support and care shown to Bernice during her final months.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers and memorial trees, Memorial donations in Bernice’s honour may be made to Sherwood Park United Church Memorial Fund.
